Defense

Now it’s time to focus on the other end of the floor. The Cleveland Cavaliers already have one of the worst defense’s in the league, so there isn’t much more they can do to make it worse. The duo of Ja Morant and Collin Sexton could honestly have a positive impact on the defensive end.

Standing at 6’2″, Sexton is undersized for the point guard position. This can often put him into bad scenarios. Furthermore, he has had a rough time learning how to play defense without being drawn into silly fouls.

Still, Sexton has the tenacity and grit necessary to be a great defender. He has shown strong capabilities in spurts but has a long way to go before being elite on this end of the floor.

As for Morant, he is also undersized at 6’3″ and has been a liability on defense at times in college. This, of course, could get even worse when he gets to the league, but his sheer athleticism should help him translate his game without much trouble.

The biggest issue with this duo on defense is obviously their size. It will be tough for the Cavaliers to keep two players of this height on the court at the same time. However, they both have the speed and mentality needed to become strong defenders.

It would take near perfect development for Morant and Sexton to become a reliable defensive backcourt, but it’s possible. At their worst, they would be a liability due to their lack of size, not their lack of talent.
