2019 NBA Draft: Top 10 prospects to watch during March Madness
By Tony Pesta
3. Grant Williams — F (Tennessee)
Tennessee finished the season with a 29-5 record and Grant Williams was the key reason for their success. The third-year player has now won the SEC Player of the Year Award in back-to-back seasons and is ready to carry his team to a deep tournament run.
Williams plays with an old school style. Standing at 6’7″ and weighing 236 pounds, Williams utilizes his strength to play bully ball in the post against his opponents. He is putting up a consistent 19.0 points and 7.6 rebounds a game and has helped lead Tennessee to the 2-seed in the South region.
There’s no question that Williams is going to have his way against weaker opponents in the paint. He is too skilled around the rim to be stopped and he is going to wreak havoc during this year’s tournament.
The concerns around Williams focus on the fact that he isn’t very quick on his feet and can be prone to foul trouble. He is committing an average of 3.2 fouls a game for his college career and this could be a problem for his team if he falls into foul trouble during one of these games.
Williams is projected to be a late first round pick but a big performance in March could elevate his draft stock. This is his time to show scouts what he is worth in the league, so don’t be surprised if he puts on a strong stretch of games.
