3. Is Kris Dunn the starting point guard of the future?

When the Bulls acquired Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and Lauri Markkanen in the Jimmy Butler trade in the summer of 2017, they were thought to be the potential cornerstones of the franchise going forward, and that has been the case….well, at least to an extent.

Markkanen turned in a solid rookie campaign and aside from a recent slump (more on that later), he’s played well in his second NBA season. Meanwhile, LaVine shouldered most of the scoring load early in the season when multiple players went down with injuries and he’s turned in a solid season following an ACL injury that kept him off the court for 11 months.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Dunn. On one hand, his six assists per game are on par with what he did a year ago, and he’s also shooting a career best 34.5 percent from 3-point range.

On the other hand, his scoring average is down two points per outing and he hasn’t consistently performed well on the defensive end of the floor. Additionally, his assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.53 ranks 32nd in the league, while his backup Ryan Arcidiacono is ranked fourth (4.16).

According to Mark Schanowski NBC Sports Chicago, the team has been scouting Murray State point guard Ja Morant, which could indicate the Bulls aren’t totally sold on Dunn being the long-term solution at the starting point guard spot.

Can Dunn do enough during this last stretch of games to prove otherwise, or will the team opt to draft a point guard or sign a veteran floor general during the offseason?

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
