The Atlanta Hawks took Maryland’s Kevin Huerter with the 19th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was projected to be a good player, but his continuing development has him looking to be Atlanta’s third future star.

Kevin Huerter was one of the most underrated prospects coming out of Maryland in the 2018 NBA Draft. The Atlanta Hawks rookie drew comparisons of Kyle Korver, J.R. Smith and even Klay Thompson as a long shot ceiling.

Atlanta took him with the 19th pick in the first round.

Huerter is already one of the top scoring threats on the Hawks, with the likes of Trae Young and John Collins as fellow young cornerstones.

He has been consistently progressing throughout the season which, despite his expected rookie struggles, is cause for optimism in Atlanta.

Like any rookie, Huerter has experienced both ups and downs with his game this year. His development looks to be on the right track and first-year head coach Lloyd Pierce has his star young players on the right track going forward.

He is looking like a stabilizing force in the ever-accelerating rebuild in Atlanta, so now it’s time to examine his rookie year so far.
