Cleveland Cavaliers: 5 reasons for optimism despite poor season
By Tony Pesta
3. Return of Kevin Love
The Cleveland Cavaliers knew exactly what they were doing when they signed Kevin Love to a four-year contract. Having Love on this team is special because it gives the franchise an emergency backup plan.
If things go wrong and Love plays poorly, the Cavaliers can always trade him away. Sure, he might not be worth as much as he used to be, but they should be able to get a first round draft pick at the least.
Trading Love is something that the Cavs will be able to do if everything goes wrong. However, keeping Love could prove to be a good idea as well.
When healthy, Love is an All-Star in this league. In the 12 games he has played this season, Kevin is averaging 18.8 points and 11.4 rebounds a game. Keep in mind, these statistics are including games in which Love is playing on a minutes restriction.
The way that Love has played this year should be an indication of good things to come. He has been shaky at times, but he definitely looks ready to be the focal point of the offense.
Kevin Love will provide security for this team. As they rebuild with their younger assets, Love can serve as a veteran leader to help speed up the development of younger prospects. Above all else, Love helps keep Cleveland fans happy as they get to hold on to one member of the historic 2016 championship team.
