Los Angeles Lakers: Checking in on Brandon Ingram’s progress
By Tony Pesta
Offensive improvements
The most impressive thing Brandon Ingram has done this season is improving his offensive game. He always received praise for his offensive potential, but it wasn’t until recently that he finally began to live up to expectations.
Ingram thrives as an iso-scorer. He has a wide array of moves that help him work around any defender in front of him. His creativity is endless and he displays lightning-quick reaction time to what the defense is doing.
In his third season, Ingram is averaging a career-high 18.3 points per game. Since his name began to be thrown around in trade talks, he has elevated his game to an even higher level. For the last six games, Ingram is averaging 27.8 points and 7.5 rebounds a night on 57.0 percent shooting from the floor.
It is a very pleasant sight to see Ingram playing this well while facing adversity. It shows a degree of mental toughness that is needed to succeed in this league.
While he has shown to be a brilliant scorer, Ingram will have to work at becoming a better playmaker. His understanding of how the offense flows is already superb, so translating that to set his teammates up shouldn’t be too difficult.
This recent stretch from B.I. is showing exactly what many believed he was capable of doing. He can be a real offensive threat in this league and he is only a few steps away from being an elite talent on this end of the floor.
