NBA: Each team’s greatest comeback from injury in franchise history
Greatest injury comeback in Milwaukee Bucks history: Eric Bledsoe
Torn left meniscus
The re-emergence of guard Eric Bledsoe has been something to admire on the Milwaukee Bucks. Bledsoe began his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers as the 18th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. After three seasons and an All-Rookie selection, he never stuck in Los Angeles, joining the Phoenix Suns via trade in the 2013 offseason.
In December 2015, he suffered a torn left meniscus, causing him to miss 51 games during the regular season.
He returned to average 21.1 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game in 2016-17 but the following season, something was amiss, as he was sent home from practice then abruptly traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 2018-19 season marks Year 2 of Bledsoe’s bid for a comeback and despite his injury, he has some security now that he’s signed a four-year, $70 million contract extension with the Bucks. He’s averaging 15.9 points, 5.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game through 61 games this season on the best team in the NBA.
Milwaukee has a record of 48-15, the best in the league this season and it’s partly due to solid players like Bledsoe. There’s MVP-candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo on the roster as well. Bledsoe’s injury troubles look to be behind him though he’s missed a few games with a back injury.
