3. Allonzo Trier

Yes, Allonzo Trier did sign a two-year extension with the Knicks in December, but the second year is a team option. This means that the Knicks could easily decide against bringing him back and opt to have the extra $3.5 million available in free agency.

But truth is, you won’t get much more offensive production at this cheap of a price anywhere else in free agency. Even though they probably will bring him back, we are dealing with a rather peculiar franchise where nothing is stable.

What a story it’s been for Trier. After going undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft, he signed a two-way contract with the Knicks. His work ethic did not go unnoticed as he got quickly signed by the team that initially placed their belief in him.

Trier is averaging 10.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game while being eighth in scoring among rookies. He has made quite the impression in the Knicks community, becoming a fan favorite due to his devotion to the team.

Now currently on a hot streak in which he has scored16 points or more in five of his last seven games, Trier could be playing his way into securing another season with the New York Knicks.
