Phoenix Suns: 3 big questions following 2019 NBA All-Star break
With the 2019 NBA All-Star break already past, the 2018-19 campaign enters the home stretch. Here are three big questions for the Phoenix Suns to answer.
NBA All-Star Weekend is always a welcome break in the midst of a grueling 82-game season, but some teams need it more than others. Given the way they limped into the 2019 NBA All-Star break, the Phoenix Suns are a pristine example.
Sporting the league’s worst record, second-worst point differential, second-worst defense and third-worst offense, the Suns are once again the epitome of helpless. They’ve struggled with injuries to their two best scorers in Devin Booker and T.J. Warren, but even when they’e been available, Phoenix has mostly been uncompetitive.
With 23 games left in another miserable season, the Suns have to find a way to build some positive momentum heading into the summer. This young group has grown too accustomed to losing, and it shows — not only in their almost nightly 20-point deficits, but in the team’s poor body language as well.
While tanking for a top draft pick makes the most sense given what awaits at No. 1 and the Suns’ need for more two-way talent, the revamped NBA Draft Lottery odds leave plenty of room for improvement if this team can manufacture it. In other words, the Suns should use the next two months to get better, not intentionally rest players who desperately need development.
After a week-long reprieve from Suns basketball and their franchise-record 15-game losing streak, it’s time to take a look at three big questions this team needs to answer over the final quarter of the season.
