New York Knicks: 4 goals following 2019 NBA All-Star break
2. Better offensive efficiency
When David Fizdale was hired as head coach, one of the things many people were excited about was the innovative offensive he would bring along with him. For fans, not seeing the triangle offense and whatever it was Jeff Hornacek was running would be a welcome change. However, things have not yet panned out that way.
New York is 26th in the NBA in scoring with 105.3 points per game. They are the worst shooting team in the league, making only 43 percent of their shot attempts. They’re not ranked much better in 3-point percentage, as they are 29th, connecting at a 33.6 percent clip. Only the Phoenix Suns are worse.
All in all, that results in the Knicks being 27th in the league in offensive rating at 104.8. DeAndre Jordan will help bring the overall shooting percentage up along with Mitchell Robinson, as both shoot at least 68 percent from the field. One player who has to work on his shot selection and efficiency is Kevin Knox.
Knox has had some strong showings this season, but it is clear that he has a lot of development left. Knox is taking the second-most shots of anyone currently on the roster and is shooting better than only Frank Ntilikina, who needs to improve his offensive game as well.
However, the tools are there for Knox to become a go-to scorer, which is encouraging. Having a point guard like Dennis Smith Jr. should help, as he can collapse the defense for some kick-out 3-point opportunities.
