3. What role will Goran Dragic undertake upon his return?

Goran Dragic last stepped on the court for the Heat on Dec. 10, having already missed nine of the previous 10 games due to knee discomfort. The end result was surgery, with Dragic expected back on the court shortly after the All-Star break. During his time on the floor this season, Dragic was clearly hampered by the injury, with his .410/.314/.760 shooting splits far from the efficient floor general the Slovenian had been known as throughout his career.

In his absence, rising star Justise Winslow took his place at the helms of the offense. During this time, Winslow has gone from strength to the strength as the Heat’s floor leader. Since making the position his own on a full-time basis on Dec. 23, Winslow has averaged 14.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while being an overall +56 while on the floor over those 25 games.

Therefore, the question facing the Heat is the following: Do they stick with Winslow at the point for the remainder of the season (and potentially the playoffs), or do they gradually work Dragic back into his familiar starting spot, and move Winslow back off the ball?

Naturally, there should be enough minutes for both Dragic and Winslow to share the ball-handling duties, especially since there are no other recognized point guards on the Heat roster.

In full flight, Dragic is a highly aggressive point guard with the ability to break down the defense and score at an efficient clip. Furthermore, he has also shown the ability to play off the ball, which is understandable given his experience at age 32.

However, with the race for the playoffs likely to come down to the final games of the season, deciding on who takes the reins as the floor general come playoff time certainly shapes as a critical decision for the Heat coaching staff.
