5. Isiah Thomas

A name that seems to come up more often than you’d think when a team has an executive opening belongs to Isiah Thomas. The two-time NBA champion, Finals MVP, 12-time All-Star and the Pistons’ Hall-of-Famer has a virtually unmatched resume as a player. As an executive, however, Thomas has a checkered history.

His best known front office role was as the president of basketball operations with the New York Knicks. Thomas built an expensive, underperforming roster in his tenure in the mid-2000s and was the subject of a sexual harassment lawsuit in 2007 which cost the Knicks and chairman James Dolan a total of $11.6 million.

In spite of this, according to ESPN’s Marc Spears, Thomas may have New Orleans ties that supersede any grander concerns.

It’s possible Thomas, who has remained connected with the NBA and is currently part of TNT’s Players Only broadcasts, has learned from his past mistakes and is ready to take the reigns of a new franchise. However, he’s likely the longest shot on the list.
