New York Knicks: 5 best Knicks dunks in the Dunk Contest
5. Gerald Wilkins, 1986
What better way to start of this piece than to include the first-ever New York Knick to take part in the Slam Dunk Contest. In 1986, Gerald Wilkins was a rookie shooting guard that participated in one of the most exciting dunk contests ever.
Gerald is the younger brother of Dominique Wilkins, who is widely known as one of the best dunkers in the NBA’s history. In 1986, the two brothers went head-to-head, but ultimately, the trophy stayed outside of the family.
The award was given to 5’7” point guard Spud Webb, as he defeated Dominique in the final round, by receiving two perfect 50s, compared to Nique’s scores of 50 and 48.
Gerald’s second dunk received a perfect score of 50 and it is, to this day, a very impressive dunk to watch.
This dunk was enough to get him to the semifinal round, though he failed to qualify for the final round. He would enter the contest again next season but did not manage to impress the judges who cut him off in the first round.
