Tyler Dorsey

Contract situation:

  • 2018-19: $1.3 million

What can Tyler Dorsey do for the Grizzlies now?

Honestly, not a lot. Tyler Dorsey joined the Grizzlies after being traded from the Atlanta Hawks, a team that has been hanging out near the bottom of the standings the whole year. Bad teams usually like to play their youngsters, but as the Hawks have actually been playing well (better than the Grizzlies since December) and Dorsey has been stuck either on the bench or in the G League.

Dorsey appeared in just 27 games for the Hawks, averaging 9.0 minutes per contest. His season high in minutes (20) and points (11) came in a blowout loss to the Washington Wizards back in December.

Dorsey has largely played in garbage time, appearing in only three games this whole year when the outcome was decided by less than double digits.

However, he’s young and a former college teammate of Dillon “don’t call me MarShon” Brooks, so maybe that’ll motivate him and help him play better. If the Grizzlies’ season takes another turn for the worse, Dorsey could get more minutes in March and April to see what he can do.

Does Dorsey fit in with the Grizzlies’ future plans?

Flip a coin. He’s a young player that will come at the minimum in the offseason and if he shows he’s intriguing, the Grizzlies could very well bring him back next year.
