4. Blake Griffin (2018-present)

Blake Griffin has only been with the Pistons for a little more than one calendar year — he was traded to Detroit on Jan. 29, 2018 — but in that short time he’s played like the superstar and sometimes-MVP candidate they’ve been missing for about a decade.

Through the second half of last season and the first half of this season, Griffin has averaged 24 points and over seven rebounds and five assists per game. This month he’s headed to his sixth All-Star Game and has a shot at his fifth All-NBA selection.

Griffin isn’t the same player in Detroit that he was when he became mainstream famous with the Clippers. He made himself a household name in L.A. as a bull-in-a-china-shop powerhouse who dunked on anyone in his path, but recently he’s become a perimeter-based big man whose passing and outside shooting compares well with a lot of guards in the league.

The Pistons are still in this year’s Eastern Conference playoff race. If Griffin leads them there, he’ll be a hero in the Motor City and probably move up this ranking.
