Los Angeles Lakers: 5 dream targets during 2019 NBA free agency
Currently in possession of the cap space needed for one max contract, the Los Angeles Lakers could see their dreams come true during 2019 NBA free agency.
After the whirlwind of an offseason the Los Angeles Lakers had last year, it’s expected to be another doozy in 2019 for one of the league’s most storied franchises. With plenty of cap space and their sights set on a championship, things could get interesting during 2019 NBA free agency.
As we all know, anything can happen. Most of the superstars set to be available this offseason have player options, which more often than not aren’t exercised. Still, even if several of these big-name players hit the open market, it’s going to be up to the Lakers to convince them they should be wearing purple and gold next season.
Instead of taking the pessimistic route, though, I’ve decided to use my imagination. While a few of the Lakers’ young rising stars haven’t developed as quickly as they’d like, they’re still a team on the rise. With Magic Johnson running the show, LeBron James serving as the King on the court and plenty of capable playmakers on the roster, why wouldn’t another star want to jump onboard?
In this scenario, I’m overlooking money, player desire and potential re-signings. This is all about the ideal for the Lakers.
With a speculative eye towards the future, let’s take a look at some “dream” targets for the Lakers during 2019 NBA free agency. I know landing some of these guys is more realistic than others, but that doesn’t mean we can’t play the “what if” game.
