The Chicago Bulls sent Bobby Portis, Jabari Parker and a second round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Otto Porter Jr. Here are three takeaways from this move.

The Chicago Bulls have had a rough 2018-19 campaign, to say the least. For starters, injuries have kept several key players out of the rotation in various stretches.

Second-year forward Lauri Markkanen missed the team’s first 23 games, but Kris Dunn and former Bull Bobby Portis (more on that in a bit) were also out of the mix thanks to ankle and knee injuries.

As a result, the Bulls parted ways with head coach Fred Hoiberg following a 5-19 start. Considering they haven’t fared much better under new coach Jim Boylen (7-23), it was reasonable to presume that the team would considered standing pat at the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline.

However, that was not the case. As first reported by the The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Bulls sent Portis and Jabari Parker to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Otto Porter Jr.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Wizards will also receive a protected 2023 second round pick. What did the Bulls give up in parting ways with two key members of the bench? What does Porter bring to the mix, and what does this acquisition mean for the team’s free agency plans this summer?

To answer these questions, here’s a look at the three biggest takeaways from what Chicago accomplished at this year’s trade deadline.
