Brooklyn Nets: 3 reasons to make a trade approaching deadline
By Alec Liebsch
1. Why not?
For all the pain Brooklyn Nets fans have endured over the past few seasons, the 2018-19 campaign has been a reward like no other. They’ve already matched their win total from last season, with a third of the season still to go.
A playoff berth, and then entering the offseason with two max contract slots in the same city as a team that just traded it’s so-called “franchise player,” would do wonders for the team’s outlook. Objectively, it’s hard to see them making noise in the playoffs, but they’re the best of the non-elites in the East. That’s saying something.
Brooklyn has been starving for success. Capitalizing on this upstart squad is not only good for the playoff push, but also shows the players they’re not screwing around. That matters for upcoming free agency, especially when sharing zip codes with a tanking team.
If for no other reason than to help DLo, the Nets need a guard. LeVert has a timetable, but who knows how much of his old self will be back right away? Napier isn’t a bad player, but he can’t be the sixth man either.
Finding a way to tacitly bolster the rotation has to be on the front office’s agenda. Any marginal addition to the guard group would help tremendously, and if Nets’ brass hones in on a guy, it’s probably for good reason.
