Hoops Habit mock draft for the 2019 NBA All-Star Game
Karl-Anthony Towns
In this era of guard-like seven-footers with ridiculous skill-sets, Karl-Anthony Towns doesn’t get mentioned enough. We gush over Embiid, Davis and Nikola Jokic, and rightfully so, but this 23-year-old is something special.
With Jimmy Butler now elsewhere, Towns has returned to the role he’d grown accustomed to prior to Butler’s arrival, and it’s been utter domination ever since.
Even at such an early stage in his career, we know KAT’s game. He’s incredibly athletic for someone his size, can get to the bucket and finish around the rim with either hand or shoot from the outside. His efficiency from both the field and beyond the arc makes him nearly impossible to slow down.
He’s improved in his ability to both protect the rim and dish the ball while ranking 10th in the league in double-doubles. The Minnesota Timberwolves may not be winning as much as they’d like, but it’s hard to fault Towns given what he brings to the table on a nightly basis.
I definitely could’ve gone with Jokic as my backup center, and there are some who will likely believe that should’ve been the case. I decided to go with the more dynamic Towns, a guy with seemingly limitless amounts of energy who doesn’t need to be the focal point of the offense in order to contribute.
