2. The depth of the Boston Celtics

It’s no secret — the Boston Celtics have a lot of talent. One of the stronger areas of talent is in their point guards. With Kyrie Irving and Marcus Smart having great seasons, Rozier has found himself as the third-string point guard.

Prior to the 2018-19 season, the Celtics showed their cards when they re-signed Marcus Smart to a four-year, $52 million contract. This showed that the Celtics see Smart as a long-term piece of the team, along with All-Star Kyrie Irving.

When the Celtics dished out that much money to Smart, it was more than clear they had no intentions of re-signing Terry Rozier — at least not to a big contract.

With Marcus Smart proving his worth and nearly solidifying his way into the starting lineup, Rozier is quickly losing his worth to the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics choose to run a small-ball lineup, with their most-used starting lineup being a combination of Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Marcus Morris and Al Horford. Coming off the bench is usually a plethora of wing players like Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Semi Ojeleye and even Guershon Yabusele at times.

There is just no room left on the Celtics’ roster for Rozier. They can even replace his minutes with the capable Brad Wanamaker now, and for those reasons, the Celtics should look to trade him prior to the trade deadline.
