In the 2018 NBA Playoffs, “Scary” Terry Rozier took the reins of a young Boston Celtics team and led them to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. With Rozier’s contract expiring, is he worth keeping around?

The 2017-18 NBA season was a breakout year for young Boston Celtics point guard Terry Rozier. Playing in a career-high 80 games, and starting in 16, Rozier quickly made an impact for the well-destined Celtics squad.

Last season, Rozier averaged career-highs in all aspects: 11.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Although he was having the best season of his career, it wasn’t until the playoffs where he really made an impact.

On April 5, 2018, ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that star point guard Kyrie Irving would be out for the season as he needed surgery on his left knee. This came as a blow to Celtics fans, as they had already witnessed the gruesome season-ending injury to Gordon Hayward in the first game of the season, where he dislocated his ankle and fractured his tibia.

With the team in need of a starting point guard, Terry Rozier stepped up to the plate. Playing in 36.6 minutes per game, he averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. His remarkable performances dubbed him the name “Scary Terry.”

Unfortunately, it was not enough, as the Celtics fell to the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Rozier’s performance gave Celtics fans hope that he was going to be a star, but it also filled Rozier’s head with visions of him receiving a big payday.

Here are three reasons why the Boston Celtics should trade Terry Rozier prior to the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline.
