With less than two weeks until the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers have a golden opportunity to acquire Anthony Davis right now.

We weren’t sure if it would happen this soon, but the basketball gods have their own unique way of creating interesting NBA storylines at the perfect moment in time.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Anthony Davis will not sign a supermax extension with the New Orleans Pelicans and instead prefers to be traded elsewhere.

This move seemed to be a long time coming, but the timing of it all is quite fascinating. There have been two teams most linked to AD: The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. Due to a rule in the CBA, Boston can’t pull off a deal right now unless they include Kyrie Irving.

Such a roadblock leaves the door wide open for the Lakers to go and acquire the superstar they’ve been looking to pair with LeBron James. Their offer can’t beat Boston’s, even if they were to include every single youngster on the roster. But Davis’ request appears to give them first right of refusal.

There has been and will continue to be plenty of chatter linking AD to the Lakers prior to the Feb. 7 deadline. It would likely take every valuable asset and then some to pull off this blockbuster trade, but if history has taught us anything, it’s that Los Angeles needs to make this deal happen right now — no matter the cost.
