Utah Jazz: Pros and cons of trading for Otto Porter Jr.
Con: Currently in a down year in Washington
An additional con that is worth looking into when it comes to Porter is the fact that he’s having a bit of a down year this season, which could be for a multitude of reasons that may not be directly related to on-court performance.
Through 37 games, Porter is having one of his worst seasons statistically since his 2015-16 campaign, his third year in the NBA.
The decline in performance is a bit worrisome mainly for the fact that Porter put together his career-best season last year, including averaging 14.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 77 appearances.
The down year (12.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game) could stem back to the early-season rumblings of Washington’s locker room culture being a mess, or it could be an early indication that Porter’s career could be on a slight, steady decline.
He is still having a decent season in Washington and a fresh start in Utah or somewhere else could certainly help, but so far this year we haven’t really seen the Otto Porter Jr. that we saw the last two seasons in the nation’s capital.
