New Orleans’ perspective

The Anthony Davis story certainly failed to meet the franchise’s dreams. Selected by the (at the time) New Orleans Hornets with the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Davis was supposed to take the team where their previous superstar, Chris Paul, couldn’t.

Even though he failed to get that Rookie of the Year award, there is no doubt now that Davis is the best player from the 2012 draft class. He has been a superstar since then and the franchise player for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Unfortunately, not all stories have a happy ending, and in this case it will most likely end with Davis departing in search of a better winning situation. Thus begins the game of who can offer the most dowry.

Contenders would most likely avoid giving up their superstars in exchange for Anthony Davis, but that should not be a problem for the Pelicans. They are clearly not winning, and trading away Davis is only about to make them worse. What they should be looking for is solid young stars to build the franchise around.

Time is slowly running out, however. It is known that players tend to drop in trade value as they approach the end of their contracts, as teams would prefer to sign them for free instead of giving up pieces to acquire them via trade.

It has been reported that the Pelicans are in no rush to trade Anthony Davis, but a trade before the trade deadline might still suit them if they’re blown away by an offer.
