Dallas Mavericks: 5 moves to make in hopes of playoff contention
By Jordan Daly
2. Trade for Derrick Favors
Derrick Favors, a 27-year-old big man for the Utah Jazz, would be a great asset that the Mavericks should target.
The Jazz have chosen to run with a small ball lineup at times this season, having Jae Crowder start in Derrick Favors’ place. With Favors’ contract being $18 million, the Jazz should not be opposed to letting the now bench player go.
Currently, in his ninth season in the league, Favors is averaging 11 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game. His veteran presence on the court could really make an impact in Dallas. Pair Favors with Mavericks center DeAndre Jordan and they would be a huge threat in the paint.
A trade that might work out for both teams is sending Dennis Smith Jr. and Dwight Powell to Utah for Derrick Favors.
Utah would be able to start running its small-ball lineup again and add two great rotational players to the lineup in Smith and Powell.
Dallas would add a post threat to its starting lineup, which, paired alongside DeAndre Jordan, would be a massive threat to teams running small-ball lineups.
