The Atlanta Hawks are looking to acquire future assets. One player to assist in adding future assets is veteran point guard Jeremy Lin.

As we draw closer to the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline, the league is full of teams looking to sell, but not too many teams looking to buy players. There’s a very clear delineation of teams looking to contend and teams looking to increase their lottery odds. The Atlanta Hawks sit firmly in the second group.

According to the New York Times‘ Marc Stein, the Hawks have made several players available, including backup guard Jeremy Lin.

So far this season, Lin has served as an excellent option at point guard for Atlanta, averaging 10.9 points and 3.7 assists per game. Lin fits perfectly for teams looking to upgrade the point guard position to make a playoff push. His ability to create in the pick-and-roll is valuable, even though he’s only shooting 33.6 percent from 3.

With general manager Travis Schlenk saying Atlanta is looking for future assets, moving players like Lin will be with the intent in adding players or draft picks who could help down the line. While he could help a team make the playoffs, Lin will also be a free agent at season’s end.

Could Lin’s potential value to a team be a first round pick? I’m not sure. In any case, here are three teams the Atlanta Hawks could call and target for a potential trade.
