NBA Rookie of the Year power rankings, Week 15: Collin Sexton back in the top 5
2. Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
Last rank: 3rd (↑1)
Rookie point guard Trae Young has been the other bright spot with Kevin Huerter, though on a more consistent basis, for the Atlanta Hawks this season. He’s averaging 14.0 points, 7.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game over his last six appearances for the Hawks. His 3-point shooting is down, but his passing prowess has been up.
Young is shooting 26.8 percent from 3-point range and 40.2 percent from the field across Atlanta’s last six games, but on the bright side, they’re 3-3 across the same stretch.
Young has racked up two double-doubles during the same span and one came during an impressive 142-126 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He poured in 24 points and 11 assists on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor and 4-of-9 shooting from behind the arc in the win.
Atlanta has found quite the core in Young, Huerter and John Collins. The Hawks could be on their way to success in the very near future.
