Goran Dragic, a 2018 All-Star, has begun declining as a player due to age. The Miami Heat should look to trade him before his value plummets.

For the last two seasons, Goran Dragic has been the premier guard for the Miami Heat. After the Heat’s franchise player, Dwyane Wade, left in free agency, Dragic showcased his skills as a top point guard in the league. He averaged 18.8 points, 5.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds per game and while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3.

Dragic, along side bruising center Hassan Whiteside, led Miami to 40-plus wins in the last two seasons, including a trip to the playoffs as the 6-seed last season. He was also nominated to his first ever All-Star game.

Yet, Dragic hasn’t played since mid-December, as surgery on his knee has kept him out since. Although he could return to action after the All-Star break, the Heat should consider moving on from him. Their record of 11-8  since Dragic’s surgery boasts a higher winning percentage than the 39-36 record Dragic led Miami to last season (57.9 percent vs. 52.0 percent). Although the sample size is small, it’s clear the Heat have benefited from Justise Winslow playing point guard.

At 32 years old, Dragic could begin declining quickly. With 22-year-old forward Justise Winslow having a career year, they should look to focus on him as the point guard of the future. His size and defense makes him a matchup problem, and it would benefit Miami to allow him to stay in this spot for as long as he produces well.

Despite the age and injury, Dragic could be a huge upgrade at point guard to several teams. Since his game is not completely built around athleticism, his decline shouldn’t be drastic if he stays healthy. Here are three potential trades for Goran Dragic.
