Con: Lack of depth

As mentioned before, the Pistons don’t have a ton of depth at the point guard spot after this season. Ish Smith and Jose Calderon‘s contracts both come off the books this summer, which leaves just Brown and Langston Galloway to soak up the 28.6 minutes per game he’s playing this season. While Brown has shown some flashes, throwing players in the fire before they are ready can stunt their development.

Jackson has struggled this season, but, when he’s on, he’s better than the options they would be left with if he were traded. Rumors have circulated that backup point guard Ish Smith could be on the move at the deadline. If he and Jackson were both gone, the team could fully embrace the tank and build around Griffin. However, with the moves the Pistons have made over the past decade, the Detroit brass has made it clear they don’t want to do that.

Jackson gives them playoff experience from his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also gives them their best chance to win, even if he still isn’t very good. For the Pistons, their best decision is to keep Jackson for the remainder of his deal and move on from him afterward. Their young playmakers will develop with time, and Jackson will give them a veteran player to learn from.
