With the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline nearing, standing pat seems to be the Brooklyn Nets’ best course of action amidst a multitude of options.

The Brooklyn Nets have found themselves this season and are succeeding beyond the majority of expectations handed to the team. While progress was foreseen, they have found a way to push themselves into the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. Currently the 6-seed, their 25-23 record has them a game and a half ahead of the seventh-seeded Miami Heat.

After losing Caris LeVert to injury early in the season, the outlook was uncertain for this Brooklyn team, and it didn’t seem hopeful. Since then, players like D’Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen have stepped up to the challenge. In what has become a trademark for Kenny Atkinson and the Nets, the young players on the roster have found continued development and shown plenty of promise.

Positioned to make their return to the playoffs after three consecutive seasons of postseason absence, the upcoming 2019 NBA Trade Deadline places the surging Nets in unusual territory. Like many other teams around the league, their trade market identity isn’t clear-cut, with multiple avenues laid out in front of them.

They could find themselves looking to buy and take on talent in pursuit of keeping the ball rolling and seeing how far into the playoffs they can get. If they felt there’s still more work to be done in amassing assets, they could look to sell roster pieces in exchange for picks or more young talent. However, there are three big reasons the best thing the Brooklyn Nets could do around the trade deadline is absolutely nothing at all.
