Memphis Grizzlies: 4 takeaways from their last 4 games
3. They sometimes forget how to shoot
Game in question: Jan. 16 vs. Milwaukee Bucks
For a team that plays as slow as the Grizzlies and lacks offensive firepower outside of Mike Conley, Marc Gasol and the occasional Jaren Jackson Jr. outburst, quality shots are a must for the team.
The Grizzlies began the year with a respectable 45.8 field goal percentage, good for 15th in the league, and a very good 36.8 3-point percentage, sixth in the league. Their offense is largely one-and-done, as they’ve been near the bottom of the league in second chance points since the start of the season.
Those shooting numbers, however, have taken a big dip since the beginning of the year.
- October: 43.5 FG%, 36.8 3P%
- November: 46.7 FG%, 36.7 3P%
- December: 45.5 FG%, 32.3 3P%
- January: 43.8 FG%, 33.3 3P%
This dip in shooting has seen them go to 28th in the league in field goal percentage and 27th in 3-point percentage in January.
This was all on display against the Milwaukee Bucks, where they had a horrible shooting line: 38.9 percent from the field, 32.3 percent from deep and just 68 percent from the charity stripe. This game, however, was witness to a Justin Holiday 3-pointer, one of just four he’s hit with the team so far. So that’s something, right?
