With the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline approaching, the Phoenix Suns should do Troy Daniels a solid and trade him to a more competitive team. Here are a few options.

Heading into the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline, the Phoenix Suns still have one glaring need: a starting-caliber point guard.

However, with the way the season is going, how many teams will be keeping their point guards for playoff runs and De’Anthony Melton‘s potential long-term fit alongside Devin Booker, it’s looking more and more likely that the Suns wait until the offseason to address this pressing need.

Nothing can ever be ruled out around the trade deadline, but even if interim general manager James Jones isn’t actively pursuing a new point guard, there are still a few Suns players that could be on the move soon. The most likely trade candidate, even if he’d only represent a minor move, is Troy Daniels.

In such a wing-heavy rotation, Daniels has had a hard time finding minutes under head coach Igor Kokoskov. Though his trademark NBA skill — 3-point shooting — is a highly coveted one around the league, he’s only averaging 13.8 minutes per game in his 22 appearances for the team his season.

Though he’s been productive in those minutes, putting up 6.1 points a night and canning 40 percent of his 3.9 long range attempts per game, his opportunities are limited behind Devin Booker, T.J. Warren, Mikal Bridges, Josh Jackson and Kelly Oubre Jr. on the wings.

With the Suns’ season heading nowhere and this sixth-year journeyman wasting away on an 11-win team, Phoenix should do him a professional courtesy and send him to a more competitive team where he might actually find minutes thanks to his floor-spacing.

There will be plenty of teams looking for 3-point snipers to bolster their depth for the postseason, and with Daniels being a cheap, $3.3 million expiring contract, it’d make sense for the Suns to move him before Feb. 7 and try to pick up a second round draft pick.

Bearing all that in mind, here are five potential trades involving Troy Daniels that would make sense for everyone involved.
