2. The return of Jeff Green

I’m not sure when or if Jabari Bird will return to the NBA, but that’s beside the point. There have been very serious allegations against him and he’ll have to handle all the court proceedings before rejoining the league is even an option for him. He only exists in this trade to match the contract for Jeff Green.

Without John Wall, the Washington Wizards are objectively bad. They should move Bradley Beal and plan for the future while they can, but who knows what that franchise will do. They inexplicably traded a good, young player in Kelly Oubre Jr. for Trevor Ariza, who adds the same value on the court and is about 10 years older then him.

The Wizards need to start making forward thinking moves now. Jeff Green signed there after a run to the NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and figured he could be helpful in the Wizards’ bid for kings of the East.

That has gone out the window, and now a quality veteran is left toiling away with a franchise that seems to have little direction and a lot of money tied up. They should move him while they can get something out of him, and the only interested parties will be contending teams that need a little roster tweak.

He could be perfect for the Celtics. A homecoming for Jeff Green, who was thought to be the future for a good while after the Paul PierceKevin Garnett trade. He was a thorn in their side in last year’s playoffs, being crucial to helping LeBron power through the Celtics’ young stars.

He can add what he did last year to a Celtics team that could certainly use some helping stabilizing their record. He can defend 3s and 4s, as well as small guards on the switch, and has a good shooting touch.

If the Celtics follow through with the previously mentioned Daniel Theis trade, he could slide right into his spot in the rotation seamlessly. He is a solid player who has proven he is willing to take on a smaller role in the pursuit of something great.

The Wizards should go into draft stockpiling and asset building mode. Jeff Green is gone next year, and they should at least try and get something for him.
