The Detroit Pistons are approaching the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline deciding whether to buy or sell. Selling it is, and here are their pieces for sale.

The Detroit Pistons are still in the midst of their rebuild. After the addition of Blake Griffin last year, they slowed their rebuild by trading away potential building blocks for the future.

While the team could make the playoffs this year, they would be wise to embrace the tank as the season winds down. In an effort to expedite their rebuild, they should add assets by trading away players on expiring contracts or expensive ones to free up cap space.

With the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline only a few weeks away, the Pistons need to pick up the phone and start calling potential trade partners. Detroit has been working to get back into being a perennial playoff attendant, but it’s struggled to put that all together. The Pistons have never fully embraced tanking, but it’s time to retool that while Griffin is still in his prime, and Andre Drummond is still young enough to contribute to winning basketball.

This team has only a couple of strong contributors, but they have a number of players that would be valuable to other teams contending for the playoffs. The NBA has been moving in a direction the Pistons are a few years behind, but they do have some pieces that fit that mold. If they want to come out as “winners” from this trade deadline, these players need to be on the move.
