Boston Celtics: 3 trade possibilities for Terry Rozier
2. Charlotte Hornets
Why the Celtics say yes:
The Celtics would agree to this trade because the team needs someone who can help correct things in the locker room. All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving made some interesting comments after their loss to the Orlando Magic.
Rozier has better upside at this point in his career, but Tony Parker offers the experience the Celtics may be missing. He’s 36 years old and has been in the league since he was selected 28th overall in the 2001 NBA Draft.
Parker has had a successful career and is one of the better point guards this league has seen, winning four NBA championships and being a six-time All-Star. If things go right, Boston would guarantee his $5.3 million non-guaranteed salary for next season.
Why the Hornets say yes:
Despite how great Kemba Walker has been this season, the Charlotte Hornets are once again hovering at the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference race (21-23). There could be a possibility that Walker walks this offseason, but the Hornets will be doing everything in their power to keep the star-studded point guard.
Rozier is young at 24 years old, and he offers more potential for the Hornets organization moving forward. If Walker does re-sign with Charlotte, then the team will have a great set of point guards on their roster.
Semi Ojeleye doesn’t offer much upside, but he’s thrown into this trade scenario for money purposes. The Celtics have a very small window of cap space available, which makes it hard for them to take on a larger contract, even if the difference is $1 million.
Parker is a great mentor and veteran for the Hornets, but looking at the long-term position of the franchise, they’d be better off having a young point guard who’s hungry for a larger role.
