Los Angeles Lakers: 3 potential trade proposals for Anthony Davis
Trade Option No. 1
This is essentially a condensed version of the first proposed trade package. However, it may make more sense for the Lakers to just cut to the chase instead of trying to toss in a ton of extra players and bringing back an expiring contract of their own in order to acquire Davis.
In this scenario, the Lakers send Ingram, KCP and Rondo, along with two first round picks, to the Pelicans. In return, they simply get Davis and New Orleans’ 2019 second round pick. As compared to the similar trade package mentioned earlier, Los Angeles retains Hart but parts with two first round picks — including the one they currently own for June’s upcoming draft.
They don’t get Johnson, but don’t give up Stephenson. The almost irrelevant kicker is they do get a 2019 second round pick back from the Pelicans. It may seem insignificant, but the Lakers’ scouting department is more than capable of finding a gem with a selection in the top half of the second round.
In all reality, I think this is the best option. Moving Ingram sucks, but the Lakers have pieces to replace him in the lineup. If Davis is in town, those draft picks will probably be near the end of the first round anyway — a small price to pay for one of the NBA’s top big men.
Will it happen? Probably not. We see this happen every year with the Lakers, and rarely do the crazy trade rumors come true. If, somehow, Davis is made available before the Feb. 7 deadline, though, you’d better believe Magic will be blowing up Dell Demps‘ phone to discuss potential packages.
