Sixth Man of the Year
With constant lineup changes, there were a number of players under consideration for the Sixth Man of the Year award at the midway point. However, the one player who has consistently come off the bench and produced is Allonzo Trier.
Trier went undrafted in 2018 out of Arizona. He had some off-court issues, being suspended twice while at Arizona, but there was no doubting his basketball acumen. Trier can score the basketball and he has shown that throughout his time with the Knicks.
After going undrafted, New York quickly scooped him up on a two-way deal. Trier would quickly prove he was worthy of a full-time roster spot as he played well in the Las Vegas Summer League and preseason.
Trier locked down a rotation spot once the regular season rolled around and he has continued playing well. He is averaging 10.1 points on 43.8 percent shooting and 37.5 percent from the 3-point line, adding 2.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
Those are excellent numbers for any rookie, let alone one that went undrafted. Trier earned the two-year deal he signed with the team after his two-way deal expired when he reached the maximum days allowed on the roster.
