As we’ve reached the halfway mark of the 2018-19 NBA season, we’ve seen enough from the New York Knicks to look back and grade the team’s offseason moves.

If we could sum up the 2018-19 season the New York Knicks have had so far, an appropriate description would be, “The record does not tell the whole story.”

With a record of 10-31, the Knicks are currently tied for the third-worst record in the NBA. But surprisingly, this poor season — in terms of wins — should not be characterized as a total failure for the organization.

On pace for a top-three pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, The Knicks could easily find themselves having a future superstar sooner rather than later. The likes of Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett will be entering the draft with decent chances of ending up in New York.

New York’s only star, Kristaps Porzingis, has yet to appear in an NBA game this season following his torn ACL injury last February. Even though the team does not stand a chance of making the playoffs, the young Knicks have performed relatively well under pressure, rendering them very useful if the front office’s plan for building a championship-caliber squad still exists.

We’ve had players both underperform and exceed all expectations. Some have booked their ticket out of NY entering July, while others have booked a long-term spot on the team.

New York’s roster is filled with guys that are desperately looking to show the world they belong in the league. A roster full of former top-10 selections who haven’t turned out to be the players we thought they’d be is now transforming into young stars.

To sum it all up, this 10-31 record does not show it all. These young Knicks have definitely been a very exciting team to watch. As we wait to see what the next step for the team is, it’s time to assign some grades for New York’s moves that took place during the 2018 offseason.
