The Detroit Pistons are struggling, and a tank could be coming. Getting out of Reggie Jackson’s contract could help their rebuild next season.

The Detroit Pistons are stumbling down the Eastern Conference standings, and it’s getting to the point they need to shake things up. One major consideration for them is to start tanking for the remainder of the year, with a likely top-10 pick coming their way based on their performance as of late. Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond aren’t going anywhere, but Reggie Jackson and his salary could find a new home.

In the 2019-20 season, Griffin and Drummond are the most expensive contracts on the team, and the front office needs to focus on building around them by adding more spacing to give them room to operate. Griffin still has a few years left of his prime, and he is showing this year that he can be the main hub of the offense. Jackson doesn’t fit that style of play without a consistent jump shot, and he has lost the athleticism that made him an effective cutter earlier in his career.

Effective point guard play can be hard to come by at times. See teams like the Phoenix Suns for a good example of how not to handle that position. With such a big cap number, the team will have to get creative to get out from under the mammoth contract they handed him a few seasons ago, but it’s still possible. With a little bit of sweetener added to a deal, the team could easily get the job done, so here we go.
