Heading into the 2019 portion of their season, here are three broad goals for the Orlando Magic to make it a successful year.

Despite some faltering in the month of December, the Orlando Magic are still in the thick of the playoff race, even if they are sitting just outside the playoff spots right now with a 16-19 record.

They had lost four straight before two huge and much-needed wins over the Toronto Raptors and fellow playoff-chasing Detroit Pistons, with the second game being clinched on an Evan Fournier basket at the buzzer to steal the win.

While December hadn’t been all bad, with the two wins down in Mexico as well, had the Magic gone into 2019 having lost six straight (not including a New Year’s Eve tilt against the Charlotte Hornets), they would’ve been in real danger of seeing their season spiral out of control.

Now, however, they have steadied the ship, and can take comfort from the fact that we are coming close to the longest period of time into a season since the rebuild began that games still matter for the Magic.

They are not already looking toward the lottery, and that in itself is a positive. Bearing all that in mind, here are three broad goals for the Magic for the rest of this season. If they can achieve all three, the argument could be made that it will have been their most successful season in nearly a decade
