1. Kristaps Porzingis looks like he never left

This could be much more important than “getting your star player back healthy” implies. Having Kristaps back fully healthy will be most likely the key to the future of the whole franchise.

In a very deep free agency class, like the one of 2019, the New York Knicks could easily take advantage of their cap space and their location to lure potential free agents — possibly even some superstars.

The likes of Kevin Durant and Kemba Walker have been topping basically every team’s wish list. Fortunately for the Knicks, it might not be just a long shot for them.

During the 48 games he appeared in throughout the 2017-18 season, Kristaps averaged 22.7 points and 2.4 blocks per contest. He was selected for the All-Star Game for the first time, though his injury kept him from playing in it.

The Knicks are not in a bad place when it comes to assets. The Unicorn is an All-Star caliber big man and could be heading toward superstardom, depending on how his recovery goes.

Additionally, with a young core of Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina, Allonzo Trier and a likely top-five pick in the upcoming draft, no star free agent can easily rule out New York as a potential option.
