Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 reasons Derrick Rose can win 2 awards in 2018-19
By Luke Askew
1. The narrative
One thing that’s becoming more apparent with voting when it comes to the NBA awards is that narrative matters. People love a good story. If narrative didn’t matter, LeBron James would likely have eight or so MVP awards. But that isn’t the case. Voter fatigue is real, as is voting for the best narrative.
There are few more prominent narratives right now than the youngest MVP in NBA history — who suffered through a string of serious injuries and contemplated walking away from the game — re-establishing himself as a valuable NBA player.
If you saw how the NBA community reacted to Rose scoring a career-high 50 points in a win against the Utah Jazz on Halloween, then you’re aware of how much his fans would love to see his comeback capped off with an award.

If Rose manages to win both the Most Improved Player and the Sixth Man award, he’ll become the first player in NBA history to win the MVP, Most Improved Player and Sixth Man award. Not only that, but can you imagine if D-Rose won two of those awards in the same season?
It might sound crazy, but his play warrants consideration in both categories so far.
