Omri Casspi: 1-year, $2.2 million deal

Omri Casspi came to the Grizzlies after a troubled year where he was essentially kicked off the Golden State Warriors before breaking his thumb with the New Orleans Pelicans. Casspi has been regarded as a 3-point specialist for much of his career, but has been unable to find his groove so far.

He is shooting his lowest percentage from downtown, 36.0 percent, since the 2013-14 season when he shot 34.7 percent. In turn, Casspi is averaging his lowest minute total since the 2012-13 season, seeing the floor for just 12.3 minutes a game so far. It’s been hard for him to find any kind of rhythm on the offensive end, and he’s hoisting just one 3-pointer a game so far.

A reason for this is Casspi is just an okay defender. He doesn’t provide the same defensive value as other wing players like Wayne Selden or Garrett Temple, who can switch onto some of those smaller guards.

Whenever he does play, though, Casspi is often paired with some of the Grizzlies’ starters and can provide passable team defense. He will probably be stuck playing limited minutes for most of the year, but it would be nice to see him hit a few more 3s in his limited time.
