Detroit Pistons: 3 players the team should consider trading for
1. Rodney McGruder
If the Pistons can’t make a deal for one Heat sharpshooter, they should inquire about a different one. At 4.2 long range attempts per game, McGruder isn’t shooting as often as his teammate Ellington, but he’s still converting 38.2 percent of his looks. He would also still be better than any rotation player the Pistons currently have. This shows how much the Pistons could use a guy like McGruder to bomb away from deep.
McGruder hasn’t been amazing on either end of the floor so far based on his RPM numbers, but the Pistons need him for his shooting more than anything else. This team just doesn’t have enough 3-point shooting. He’s also on the younger side, as he’s still on his rookie contract. Young, controllable players are always in demand, and that is no different in the case of McGruder.
Three players made this list, and all three of them have expiring contracts. Coming into the offseason, one of the Pistons’ goals was to free up some cap space. They didn’t really do that, but they can do that with a deal like this. A player with an expiring deal allows Detroit to extend him, or it can let him walk when the season ends. If the Pistons are unable to land a deal for either of the aforementioned players, McGruder could easily be their guy.
