As the Brooklyn Nets continue to expand as a franchise, they’ve added the NBA 2K League, becoming the latest gaming team for the upcoming season.

The Brooklyn Nets are continuing to progress on the court with their young core of stars playing at a high level. The recent victories over the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks displayed the team’s strong fundamentals executing at clutch times offensively and defensively to seal each game.

In the competitive gaming world, it is also important to have that same form of execution in a team dynamic, especially in the highly popular NBA 2K League. The Nets are officially the latest NBA franchise to join the league, unveiling their brand new logo and team name “NETS GC” (Nets Gaming Crew) earlier in the week. The team will be a part of the league’s second season filled with the top NBA 2K players from around the world battling for a championship.

In order to start a roster, the Nets held the second and seventh overall picks in the NBA 2K League Expansion Draft, selecting Nathaniel “NateKahl” Kahl, and Moshood “SHOCKEY” Balogun Jr. Kahl spent last season with defending champions Knicks Gaming and was named Finals MVP. In 24 games, he averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

He spoke about joining the rival Nets Gaming Crew and its new logo.

"“This logo reveal is the first step in hopefully a long and successful journey here in Brooklyn, We’re beginning something special over here, and this logo is great representation of Brooklyn’s grit and resolve, the defining characteristics of our team.”"

Kahl hopes to bring his championship experience to help the team’s inaugural season as he spoke to the league media about adjusting to the new franchise culture and teaming with last year’s undrafted free agent, “Shockey.”

"“It’s been an unbelievable experience with the Nets so far. They treat us like absolute superstars. It’s been nothing but the best. Shockey and I have known of each other through 2K for a couple of years now. I’ve always had a lot of respect for his game and for the way he carries himself and handles himself as a person. But it’s been really cool getting to know everyone in the organization and we’re just ready to start this thing.”"

Shockey signed on later last season as a member of Pacers Gaming (Indiana Pacers), where he averaged 14.8 points and 10.5 rebounds in four games as a reserve.

The Nets are one of four teams to join for the upcoming season, bringing the overall total to 21 as the NBA continues to find different ways to appeal to fans year-round. The three other teams include affiliates of the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Minnesota Timberwolves, each selected from a pool of players who participated in the league’s first season left unprotected by their original team.

Kahl joining the Nets after becoming a hero for the Knicks affiliate could be just another reason for the crosstown rivalry. Nets fans now have another bragging right to hang over Knicks fans’ heads in the NBA 2K League gaming community.
