The Chicago Bulls have parted ways with Fred Hoiberg following a 5-19 start to the 2018-19 NBA season. Was this the right move?

The Chicago Bulls decided it was time to start from square one coming into the 2017-18 campaign. The rebuild included getting rid of Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo, along with sending Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

As expected, the young Bulls experienced a myriad of growing pains en route to a 27-55 finish — tied for the sixth-worst record in the league. Fred Hoiberg was given a pass though, because the roster was comprised of mostly young players who had to prove themselves.

Year 2 of the team’s rebuild was supposed to go a lot smoother with a healthy complement of players back in the mix. Unfortunately, injuries to key rotational players contributed to the Bulls producing just five wins through their first 24 games.

With the team approaching dire straits so early in the season, something had to give and that something was Hoiberg.

"“After a thorough evaluation, I elected to make this move with the overall development of our team in mind,” Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson told the Chicago Tribune. “As a team, I believe it is imperative that we make unfaltering strides in the right direction and build the right habits to help put our players in the best position to evolve not only now, but into the future. I want to thank Fred for his dedication and efforts, as well as for his enduring commitment to our team.”"

While some kind of a change was expected, did the Bulls make the right move in firing Hoiberg and was his termination justified? Here’s a look at the three biggest takeaways from this decision.
