1. Torrey Craig‘s defensive strangulation of Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook has shown plenty of contempt for the Nuggets over the years. In last season’s preseason match, Westbrook brutally sucker-shoved Nikola Jokic to the hardwood. In 2017-18, it was Westbrook’s 35-foot buzzer beater that ended Denver’s playoff hopes.

Russ even knocked super-mascot Rocky’s half-court shot out of the cylinder in 2013, probably the most disrespectful moment in Pepsi Center history.

Denver returned the favor in Saturday’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Behind Torrey Craig’s physical defense, the Nuggets limited Westbrook to an atrocious 6-of-23 shooting. This one’s for you, Rock!

Despite a lack of recent court time, Craig rose to the occasion Saturday, reacquainting himself with the Thunder’s temperamental superstar. Although Westbrook still registered a triple-double with 16 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds, his shooting iced OKC into an underwhelming offensive showing.

Here’s what Mason Plumlee had to say about Craig’s defense, per the Denver Post:

"“He plays hard, man. That’s something that we appreciate. He gave us a huge lift. We don’t win the game without him tonight.”"

Malone was also happy with Craig’s performance:

"“I think Torrey used his size, his length and his body positioning really, really well tonight.”"

Coaches love players ready to make an impact, regardless of recent playing time. Craig stepped up big in Gary Harris‘ absence, seamlessly filling the stopper role. This was precisely the type of grit Denver needed Saturday on the road. Remember this performance if the Nuggets make the postseason.
