The Cleveland Cavaliers may have found the future of their franchise with Collin Sexton. Here is how he has been building up his case for the Rookie of the Year award.
Collin Sexton was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. His potential to become a scrappy defender and versatile transition scorer made him an interesting pick. However, at only 19 years old, his skill-set was still very underdeveloped.
His inexperience showed early on in the season. The first few weeks of the year were anything but successful for Sexton. He began his NBA career by averaging a lackluster 10.5 points per game on 40.7 percent shooting through his first 10 games. His impact on the court was unnoticeable and he looked awkward next to his teammates.
Luckily, Sexton turned things around quickly. After an injury to point guard George Hill, Sexton earned his first start. Since then, he has been improving every game and is quickly turning into one of the best players in his draft class.
While it is still very early in the season, Sexton is starting to build an argument for the Rookie of the Year award. Today, we will evaluate his recent performances and see how he stacks up against his competition.
