Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons they should trade for Markelle Fultz
By Tony Pesta
1. Low risk
The best thing about this potential trade involves a combination of the first two reasons mentioned. Overall, the reason the Cleveland Cavaliers should absolutely trade for Markelle Fultz is that this is a low-risk, high-reward situation.
As previously mentioned, Fultz’s trade value should not be very high. This means the Cavaliers will likely be able to trade for him without giving up any crucial pieces to the rebuilding process. In my opinion, the only players that Cleveland shouldn’t give up are Collin Sexton, Cedi Osman and Kevin Love. I highly doubt that any of those players would be needed to pull off a deal for Fultz.
Once the Cavaliers manage to obtain him, it will not matter if he doesn’t perform up to expectations. The Cavs aren’t competing for a championship anytime soon, so if the worst-case scenario occurs and Fultz is a complete bust, it won’t affect them too much. In fact, being a lottery team isn’t exactly a bad thing for the Cavs at this moment in time.
If Fultz somehow turns his career around and blooms into a star, the Cavaliers will have gained a valuable member to their long-term rebuild. If Fultz fails to overcome his injury, then Cleveland ends up in the same place it was before.
The risk with this trade is very low, while the potential reward is very high. Because of this, the Cavaliers need to act on this kind of move as soon as possible.
