Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons they should trade for Markelle Fultz
By Tony Pesta
2. Potential
While Markelle Fultz has certainly played well under expectations, there have been some moments in which he displayed real potential.
In the midst of his horrific rookie season, Fultz did manage to impress in a few games, with his most notable performance being on the last night of the NBA season. Against the Milwaukee Bucks, Fultz posted 13 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. At only 19 years old, Fultz became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double.
Markelle Fultz has shown improvements this season as well. For short spurts, his jump shot has actually looked normal. During one of these stretches, Fultz averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game on 42.2 percent shooting from the floor.
While it doesn’t seem as if anyone truly knows what’s going on with Fultz’s shooting form, many think he is suffering from nerve damage in his shoulder. This argument was further strengthened when he oddly bobbled the ball back and forth between hands before shooting a free throw. Apparently, this strange shooting form was an attempt to trick his brain into not feeling the pain in his shoulder.
While this type of injury can be career-ending, Fultz has youth on his side. It is entirely possible that he can make a full recovery from this without missing out on his best years. If the Cavaliers decide to trade for him, they may win the lottery if he manages to overcome this injury.
